In the 1990s, Lauren Gregg, the long-time assistant coach for the United States Women’s National Team, related a story about how the national team often used the example of the four-minute mile as motivation.

In the track and field world, the four-minute mile was a barrier every elite distance runner eyed as a measure of greatness. Increasing The Compete Level” On Your Team”

My team of 13-year-old girls recently had a Christmas Party. First, let me tell you that I am very lucky. My team of middle-schoolers get along very well. They laugh a lot and really enjoy being around each other. And at least for a few hours at a time, they dispel the old saying, “There’s nothing meaner than a middle school girl.”
